Filipino Wedding Traditions at Great Marsh Estate | Jessica & Carlo
Jessica and Carlo celebrated their Great Marsh Estate wedding in Northern Virginia surrounded by so much love from their family and friends. This beautiful day was a love letter to people who impacted their lives and and supported them throughout their relationship.
Some of their favorite moments were their wedding vows to each other. The vows were vulnerable and heartfelt and really spoke to the couple’s 11-year relationship and challenges that they’ve been able to overcome together. Standing at the altar, they were able to reflect on how each step led them exactly where they were meant to be.
Throughout the wedding ceremony, they incorporated several Filipino traditions, which made their ceremony even more memorable. One tradition was the cord, veil, and coin (arras) rituals. Their sponsors placed a veil over them to symbolize unity and being “clothed as one,” and a cord was draped around them in a figure-eight shape to represent their everlasting bond. Jessica and Carlo also included the exchange of coins, which signifies their commitment to support one another and share their blessings throughout their marriage.
In their wedding planning, Jessica learned the importance of staying organized! She kept checklists and had monthly check-ins with her Month-Of Coordinator at Tilly and Teal to ensure that no details fell through the cracks. She even created a PDF for her wedding party with key information such as a packing list, any responsibilities, and where to be any time during the day.
For their wedding reception, they wrote each guest a handwritten note and paired it with a photo of them together as their place card. DJ Philipz, made sure the reception entertainment ran smoothly and had constant communication throughout the night, which Jessica and Carlo found extremely thankful for!
Every detail of their wedding way was intentional, meaningful, and filled with love — it was truly a day to cherish!
